What are Behavioural Assessments?

In organisational contexts, behavioural assessments measure what can be directly observed. Reports of behaviour may come from the individual themselves (‘self-report’), from observations made by others (‘other-report’) or a combination of the two, as in 360 feedback where ratings of behaviour are obtained from multiple sources. Behavioural assessments often measure pragmatic constructs that are of direct relevance to organisations (e.g. planning and organising, persuading and influencing) and may be tied to tools such as competency frameworks. Behavioural Assessments may have some psychometric properties, but do not typically claim to measure the underlying psychological constructs that influence observable behaviour.
